SOMETHING FROM THE PASTOR

The Cover-Up

Proverbs 28:13

Sin is an ugly thing.  When sin is exposed the first thing one wants to do is to cover it up.

Two men sinned against God and others as a result of their lust.  Achan had a lust for things and David had a lust for another man’s wife.  Both of these men attempted to cover-up their sins.  Sin is never hidden from God and He will expose it in time.  The text reveals important lessons.

  1. THE CONCEALMENT OF SIN: “covereth his sins”
    1. How some deal with sin:
      1. They deny it happened
      2. They diminish its severity
      3. The attempt to dispose of the evidence
    2. God says sin will be revealed: Nu. 32:23; Ecc. 10:20
  2. THE CONSEQUENCE OF SIN: “will not prosper”
    1. Sin affects a person…
      1. Physically
      2. Emotionally
      3. Mentally
      4. Socially
      5. Spiritually
    2. Sin cost a person more than can they pay
    3. Sin keeps a person longer than they wanted to stay
  3. THE CONFESSION OF SIN: “whoso confesseth and forsaketh”
    1. There must be an acknowledgment of sin
    2. There must be an abandonment of sin
